3FB Kiwi Orchid Bark

3FB stands for "Fresh Fine Fibrous Bark", a new product that is currently being introduced into the market. George Fuller has recently completed a very successful trial growing Pleonies in 3FB (for more details see his testimonial). Additionally Disa and masdevallia Orchids were grown in 3FB with very satisfactory results and seedlings did very well in 3FB.

George needs some time to write down his findings but they will be on our website as soon as they come available. We can however show you some of his results (images below). These pictures were taken on the September 2010 New Plymouth Orchid Show and all plants were grown in 3FB

Jenny Walsh has also recently trialled our 3FB bark, here is what she has to say about using this product:

"As a keen orchid grower I have trialled many growing media for my plants over the years. Most recently I tested Taranaki Bark Products 3FB bark in the growing conditions I use for my plants and found this product has many good uses.
I use it for seedlings straight from the flask and growing on Keikis using 3FB in a mix with No. 2 Bark. In my larger Dendrobiums that I hang, I use about an inch of No. 3 Bark, then about an inch of 3FB at the base of the plant topped up with No. 3 Bark. This helps retain a bit of moisture as hanging baskets dry out fairly quickly in the breeze.
I have also used a 50/50 mix of 3FB Bark and No. 2 Bark when growing my Masdevallias. For my Odontoglossums I mix 3FB with No. 3 Bark. I do this to prevent dehydration of the growing media and prefer this 3FB mixture over sphagnum moss.
I am very happy with the results obtained and would recommend everyone to try this product." Jenny Walsh.

Other orchid genera are being trialled in 3FB at the moment with promising initial results and we will keep you informed when final results come in.

Successes of Kiwi Orchid Bark
With our customers having remarkable success rates with all our Fresh Kiwi Orchid Bark, we can now safely say that the tannin in Fresh Bark does absolutely no harm to orchids and most commercial genera are grown in it.
Even Disa thrive in no.2 Fresh Bark and 3FB. 3FB is also used for deflasking of disa seedlings (Fresh Bark meaning uncomposted bark). Seedlings of other genera are also shown to perform exceptionally well in No. 2 Kiwi Orchid Bark and 3FB.

At the International Orchid Show in Palmerston North in 2010 we displayed Lettuce seeds sown and growing in 3FB. The fact that these seeds grew and developed so well in K.O.B. proved the paradigm that "seedlings can’t develop in fresh bark" is wrong. They actually do very well.

We can guarantee that Kiwi Orchid Bark outlasts all of our competitors bark. Others might claim unreasonable longevity but Kiwi Orchid Bark lasts longer and can even be reused for several seasons. Due to the longevity of Kiwi Orchid Bark it is more cost effective than many other barks.

Kiwi Orchid Bark is sent to customers in the United States, Hawaii, Japan,Vietnam,China and recently to Australia.

We also have customers for Kiwi Orchid Bark all over New Zealand from Dunedin to the Coramandel and Whangarei. Most Orchid Society's and expert growers give us a lot of positive feedback and support and are valued customers.
